I was born in 1955 and started writing in 1990. Since then, I've published four children’s novels, a poetry pamphlet, numerous poems in literary magazines and anthologies, and short stories for adults and children. I've also taught creative writing, run workshops, undertaken commissions and given many readings. While working as a Civil Servant after having children, I embarked on a part-time degree in English and Media Studies as a mature student. I emerged with first class honours and wondered what to do next... Twelve years of teaching in secondary schools followed. During that time, writing took a back seat while I battled with paperwork, meetings, data, marking, more meetings, bus duty - oh, and students. Now I've escaped from the classroom and I'm back in the world, writing again.
Hi Helen. We'd like to get in touch with you. Can you contact us on expresseumpoetics@yahoo.co.uk. Cheers, Nikki Clayton
ReplyDeleteHi Helen. I came across my (signed!) copy of the wonderful "Things That Fall" the other day, and it brought back many happy memories of you as my creative writing tutor at the Loughborough College evening classes back in 1998/9. I'd love to get in touch, so if you get this message and have the time, maybe you could drop me a line at neil.brammall@ntlworld.com.
ReplyDeleteAll the very best,
Neil Brammall
Hi Neil. It's good to hear from you. I've sent an email. Just letting you know in case it lands in your Junk folder.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Helen
Helen and I have just got back in touch again after quite a long time and although I always knew what an exceptionally talented writer she was, reading her work again after quite a few years and coming to it with fresh eyes has really confirmed that.
ReplyDeleteHello Helen,
ReplyDeleteI"ve just opened your little book 'Things that fall', and it has brought back super memories of when you came to read for Ware poets many years ago.
Ware poets are still meeting via 'Zoom' and we'd love to invite you to read for us again, if you are able and happy to do so. Our next meeting is on Friday 9th APril, at 8pm. Please do let me know via the email address below if you might be able to join us! Mira Shapur. mirashapur@yahoo.com
